Greensboro – Who likes heavy metal? Does it speak to you or is it just an “okay” genre? I’m going to show you how it all began, starting from the early 1960’s and ending all the way up to 2019.
Heavy metal started in the early 1960’s in Birmingham, England. Lester Bangs was credited with popularizing the term Heavy Metal. The term Heavy Metal was used to describe a style of pop music. Heavy Metal is called this because it is a harder form of rock. The first credited heavy metal band was Black Sabbath.
The people who influenced heavy metal the most were The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix.
Heavy Metal is about emotion, passion, and most importantly energy! The hair style most commonly associated with this type of music was long hair. Fans showed their love for the metal bands by the act of head banging, making devil horns, and/or other hand gestures.
Heavy metal first spread from England to Norway and then to Sweden. Eventually, it made it’s way to the United States.
