GREENSBORO – What is Envirothon? Envirothon is an academic science based club that competes with other local schools. Mrs. Burkett is the coach of Mapletown’s Envirothon club. Envirothon education combines classroom learning and outdoor activities. The club members study the environment from soils all the way to trees.
The club’s main goal is to place in the top five among the competing teams. Mapletown students have been working so hard studying and working towards their goal. The competition is next month and Mapletown feels ready when they take their best fifteen students to the competition.
The Envirothon club took a field trip on Friday, April 6th to Ohiopyle to see what nature has to offer. The students who attended looked at the different types of trees, and other environmental phenomena they have been working on.
The club is also planning on releasing the trout that they have been raising in the classroom very soon. The students in the club will be taking a trip with Mrs. Burkett down to a local creek and will release them there. They have grown from tiny eggs to about the size of a small aquarium fish. They’re about an inch long now compared to the three centimeters they were when we got them.
Envirothon is a positive and fun way to learn about the environment. To learn more about Envirothon, see Mrs. Burkett. we highly encourage more students to sign up next school year.
